City of Aspen reminds residents of snow maintenance responsibilities
Aspen, CO — The city of Aspen urges all residents and property owners to comply with winter rules designed to ensure safety and accessibility throughout the community. Proper snow removal and adherence to parking regulations are essential to keep the city functioning smoothly during winter weather.
Sidewalk safety is a community responsibility. Property owners or tenants must ensure that sidewalks, driveways and mailboxes are accessible. The city of Aspen does not provide snow removal services in these areas.
Property owners are required to shovel all snow within three hours of snowfall’s end or after daybreak. Place snow on private property or in designated snow storage areas within five feet of the asphalt edge or curb and gutter. Keep fire hydrants and transformers clear of snow to ensure emergency and utility access. Do not push snow or ice onto sidewalks, roadways, fire hydrants, or public transit loading zones.
Failure to comply with snow removal rules may result in fines or penalties.
Winter parking rules also are critical to the efficiency of snow removal operations. Residents are reminded to observe "No Parking 3 a.m. until 7 a.m." signs. This allows snowplow crews to clear streets and haul away snow during late night and early morning hours. Vehicles parked illegally during snow removal may be fined, towed, and held at the owner’s expense, including storage fees.
The city of Aspen appreciates the community’s cooperation in following these winter rules. By working together, we can ensure safer streets and sidewalks, protect essential infrastructure, and support effective snow removal operations throughout the season.
