VIN Inspection

The Aspen Police Department will verify a vehicle identification number (VIN) for new car owners and/or for plates that need to be transferred to Colorado. You can also verify your VIN with any local police department, including the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and the Town of Snowmass Village Police Department.

VIN inspections with the Aspen Police Department are available by appointment, Tuesday - Thursday between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

To best assist with your VIN inspection, please be prepared to supply the following: 

  1. A photo of your latest license plate (CO temporary or out-of-state license plate) and registration for that plate.
  2. A photo of your current valid driver’s license (Colorado or other).
  3. A photo of your most recent vehicle title. If you do not have the title, your registration. 

VIN inspections can be done onsite for addresses residing within City limits, or at the Aspen Police Department at 540 East Main Street, Aspen. 

You may pay the $20 fee when you make your appointment over the phone, or it can be made at the time of your appointment.
