Online Community Survey Available September 27 – October 18

In September, the City of Aspen began recruiting for its next Community Development Director. An important element of the recruitment process is community input, which is intended to help City leadership develop a more thorough and thoughtful candidate profile and process. Community stakeholders are asked to participate in an online survey and provide input regarding the next Director. The online survey will be available for three weeks and can be accessed by clicking HERE beginning Friday, September 27 through October 18. The responses received are confidential, will not be edited, and will be shared with City leadership and the top candidates.
The survey asks participants to respond to questions about the most important skills, leadership attributes, and experience needed to be successful in the role. In addition, participants are asked to identify the most pressing and important issues facing the City of Aspen today and can provide advice for the next Community Development Director.
The Community Development Director is responsible for administering Aspen’s land use and building codes as well as advocating for sustainable redevelopment in the community. The director advises City leadership and provides policy guidance and recommendations regarding planning and land use issues and oversees the Community Development and the Environmental Health & Sustainability departments.

Migrating Permits Into Salesforce:  Do you have a permit that was issued in our old system?  Between now and the end of the year, we will be converting it over to Salesforce. 

  • What do you need to do?  If you haven’t already registered in Salesforce, please do so now by clicking HERE.  You must be registered in Salesforce in order to complete the processing of your permit, e.g., requesting inspections.  We will notify you when we have converted your permit.  Until that time, please continue to work with us just as you always have.

Remember To Get Your Third-Party Irrigation System Audits and Approval Letters!!

This is a reminder that you must provide the WELS Plans Reviewer a Third-Party Irrigation System Audit and an Approval Letter for his review and approval before he can give final approval to your permit.  Please see WELS Sections 5.7 and 5.8 (6.5 and 6.6 in older version of the Ordinance).  Please Note: The WELS Plans Reviewer must give final approval to your permit before you can obtain a final building inspection.  The City reserves the right to conduct Landscape and Irrigation Inspections, separate from the third-party irrigation audit, for projects with WELS approval after January 1, 2019 (WELS Section 6.0), although the City may request inspections at any time regardless of the WELS approval date.
The services of a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor should be secured as soon as practical to insure a timely audit report. A list of certified auditors can be found HERE. A sample Approval Letter and Guidelines to complete the Letter are available on the website as well.  A template for an Irrigation Audit Report, specific to the WELS, will be posted soon.

Special Notice From Engineering

Attention all developers and contractors

The Certificate of Occupancy inspections for the 2019 construction season for sites with soil disturbance must be completed by October 31st 2019. Due to the fact that these inspections rely on observations of ground surfaces all inspection must be completed prior to the onset of winter conditions.

If your site disturbed soil or hardscapes and you plan on finishing in the winter months please schedule an inspection with Engineering to determine what’s needed in order to avoid unwanted delays. Additionally, if your site will have disturbed soils that will be left exposed through the winter please ensure you are prepared to install temporary stabilization and perimeter control measures to reduce the potential for erosion during the spring.
