Aspen, Colo. – April 15, 2022 – The City of Aspen is moving forward with its work in response to the residential development moratorium and will share its progress with the community at two upcoming outreach events: The Residential Building Open House on April 27 at City Hall and the Residential Building Pop-Up Event on April 30 at the Aspen Pedestrian Mall.

On March 15, 2022, Aspen City Council approved Ordinance 6, Series 2022, reinstating a temporary moratorium on the acceptance of new residential land use applications and on certain residential building applications. The moratorium for residential building is scheduled to extend until June 8, 2022.

As the City of Aspen focuses on specific, proposed responses to the issues and policy goals raised by Council and included in the moratorium, it is relying on the public and technical stakeholders to weigh in on the details of the draft code amendments.

“This second round of outreach is critical to creating a feedback loop for Council and the public where concrete proposals are presented and feedback is taken,” stated Ben Anderson, Principal Long-Range Planner with the City of Aspen. “Community Development staff are committed to running an open, inclusive process responsive to the expertise and input of our community and development professionals. Participation by the public is essential for Council to have the information and space needed to make important decisions about how the built environment is regulated.”

The Open House will take place on April 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Aspen City Hall (427 Rio Grande Place, Aspen) in the Pearl Pass Room (Upper Level). The Pop-Up Event will take place on April 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Aspen Pedestrian Mall across from the Wheeler Opera House.

City of Aspen staff will be available at these events to share information, answer questions, and hear feedback about potential policy and code language that will be used to frame recommendations presented to Aspen City Council for consideration.
